Dynamic Response of Second Harmonic Generation in Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal

The dynamic response of the second harmonic generation for a Q-switched Nd-YAG laser (wavelength: 1.064 μm) by the application of stepwise voltage has been studied in ferroelectric liquid crystal with large spontaneous polarization. It is found that the response consists of two components, that is, very fast (several hundred μs) and relatively slow (several hundred ms) responses. The fast and slow components of the response may correspond to the small modification and the main unwinding of the helical structure by the applied stepwise electric field, respectively.
