Ba_3Y_2Cu_2PtO_<10>: Newly Obtained Phase During Single Crystal Growth of Ba_2YCu_3O_<7-δ> from Platinum Crucide

A new compound whose chemical composition is Ba_3Y_2Cu_2PtO_<10> was obtained as a single crystal during preparation of Ba_2YCu_3O_<7-δ> single crystals from CuO fluxed melt using a platinum crucible. The compound has monoclinic symmetry (space group: C2/m); its lattice parameters are a_0=12.333 Å, b_0.=5.751 Å and c_0=7.247 Å, and β=105°40'. As-grown crystal is insulating or semiconducting, and has a room temperature resistivity of 3 MΩcm.
