Crystal Structure of Ternary Ba_8YCu_4O<16-d> Phase

A new ternary phase in the Ba-Y-Cu-O system is reported. It has a tetragonal structure with a space group of D^1_<4h>. The chemical composition is typically expressed as Ba_8YCu_4O<16-d>, and the lattice constants are a=0.8138 and c=0.8096 nm (c/a=0.994). The phase was suggested to have a limited composition region of stoichiometry because the lattice spacing changes with the composition of the specimen.
