Oxygen-Sensitive Resistivity of La_2CuO_4 at High Temperatures

The electrical resistivity of La_2CuO_4 at high temperatures was studied under various atmospheres. The temperature dependences of the resistivity under air and 1 atm O_2 gas showed hystereses in a wide temperature range around 300℃, which was related to the tetragonal-orthorhombic phase transition of the compound. The resistivity rapidly changed depending on oxygen pressure: the resistivities at 690℃ were 0.272 Ωcm and 0.70 Ωcm in O_2 and N_2 gases, respectively. This indicates that the resistivity is very sensitive to oxygen pressure and the compound can be used as an oxygen gas sensor.
