A new theoretical model of a dye-sensitized nanocrystalline photoelectrochemical cell based on battery theories is developed under a short-circuit condition. Carrier and recombination distributions in the cell change extensively in response to changes in the diffusion coefficient of the redox species in the electrolyte. Quantum efficiency has little influence on the change when the cell does not operate under the trap-filled condition. The solution of a simple diffusion equation for electrons is a good approximation for a calculation of quantum efficiency and short-circuit current under the trap-unfinted condition.
