Effects of the substitution of sulfur for oxygen on the structure and electrical properties of La_<2-x>Sr_xCuO_4 superconductor have been studied. It was found that the superconducting transition temperature decreases, the temperature dependence of electrical resistance at low temperatures becomes semiconducting and the electrical resistance increases with increasing sulfur content. The crystal structure at room temperature changed from tetragonal to orthorhombic, while the in-plane lattice constants a and b increased and the lattice constant c decreased with increasing sulfur content.
