Electronic Structure of Polyfuran and Poly(3-alkylfuran)

The electronic structure and optical spectrum of polyfuran and poly(3-hexylfuran) have been studied both experimentally and theoretically. The band gap of poly(3-hexylfuran) is narrower than that of polyfuran. The result is explained based on the theoretical results of the electronic structure of a model polymer.
