Negative charge flow from Al, Au, Cu and Zn targets in air at atmospheric pressure induced by irradiation with 532 nm light pulses from a Nd:YAG Q-switched laser has been detected using a simple collector facing the target. With oxidized Cu surfaces, a positive charge peak which is related to formation of Cu_2O phase on the surface is observed. The positive and negative peak heights increase sublinearly with increasing laser fluence from 0.24 to 77 mJ/cm^2. Possible emission mechanisms causing charge flow are discussed.
