Refrigeration Character of New-Type Peltier Refrigerator Using High-T_c (Bi,Pb)_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_y Superconductor

We have investigated the refrigeration characters of the Peltier refrigerators using the high-T_c (Bi,Pb)_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_y superconductor (Bi-2223) as a thermoelectrically passive material at low temperatures. For the Peltier refrigerator using the Bi_<89>Sb_<11> and the Bi-2223, the maximum temperature drop of 7.1 K has been obtained when the temperature of the hot junction is 78 K. For the Peltier refrigerator using the Bi_<85>Sb_<15> and the Bi-2223, the operating temperature dependence of the refrigeration character has been measured; furthermore the possibility of refrigeration has been demonstrated at temperatures above the superconducting transition temperature (T_c=110 K) of the Bi-2223.
