Recent high-resolution electron microscopy (HREM) of amorphous alloys has revealed that, under the condition of axial illumination, lattice-like fringes or dots frequently appear even in as-quenched samples. These could arise from the medium-range order in the atomic arrangement in the amorphous structure expected from the authors' theoretical prediction and diffraction calculations based on the crystalline embryo model. In this paper, a computer simulation of HREM images from a thin film of amorphous alloy is carried out using the embryo model. By choosing appropriate values for the spherical aberration constant and defocus distance, lattice-like fringes and dots with spacings of about 2 A extending over 10 A in diameter are well reproduced. The variations, overlapping, and frequency of appearance of the images are also calculated and are compared with the experimental results.
