A Fast Serial Readout System for Multiwire Propotional Chambers

The design, construction and performance of a fast serial readout system for multiwire proportional chambers are presented. The system consists of three modules: the amplifier card, the controller, and the word buffer and it has been used successfully in experiments on polarized deep-inelastic electron-proton scattering at SLAC and in experiments on inclusive A^0 production in 12-GeV proton-nucleus interactuons at KEK.
