The phase transformation of evaporated films of TiO_<0.5> into transition structure I has been demonstrated by in situ heating using an electron microscope. Single crystals of the δ-phase precipitate in the film during the transformation. Andersson's hexagonal model of the crystal structure of the δ-phase is verified by analysing diffraction patterns taken from these single crystals. The lattice parameters measured are a_d=5.02_2 Å and c_d=2.86_g Å. The structural relationships among the x-phase, the δ-phase and transition structure I are examined.
