Improvement of Quality Value and Shift of τ_f Value of BiNbO_4 Ceramics with Addition of CuO-V_2O_5 Mixtures

Undoped BiNbO_4 ceramics cannot be densified even at a sintering temperature of 960℃. However, BiNbO_4 ceramics can be densified at 900-920℃ when different CuO-V_2O_5 mixtures of 0.5 wt% are used as sintering aids. The dielectric properties of BiNbO_4 ceramics sintered at 920℃ were compared, and it was found that the dielectric constants almost unchanged, regardless of the CuO-V_2O_5 mixture added. As the V_2O_5/CuO ratio increases, the quality value (Q) increases and the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (τ_f) changes from a negative value to a positive one. The Q and τ_f values of BiNbO_4 ceramics are 1620 and -20.8 ppm/℃ when 0.5 wt% CuO is added, while they are 3410 and 13.8 ppm/℃ when 0.5 wt% V_2O_5 is added. BiNbO_4 ceramics with 0.25 wt% CuO-0.25 wt% V_2O_5 and 0.1 wt% CuO-0.4 wt% V_2O_5 have high Q values of 3060 and 3310 and low τ_f values of -7.8 and +6.8 ppm/℃, respectively.
