The prebreakdown density change streamers and the current pulses in liquid nitrogen were investigated. A needle-plane electrode system, consisting of a stainless steel plane and a tungsten needle whose tip radius is 1.0 μm, was used throughout the experiments. The streamers under impulse voltage conditions were observed using high-speed photography for both positive and negative polarities. Two structures of streamers, filamentary and bush-like, were found in both polarities. The mechanisms of these streamer structures are determined by analyzing the results.
