Crystallization of Superconducting Phases in Melt-Quenched and Annealed Bi_<1.6>Pb_<0.4>Sr_2Ca_<n-1>Cu_nO_y (n=1 to 4) Ceramics

The crystallization processes of the superconducting phases in melt-quenched BSCCO ceramics which exhibit glass structures after melt quenching have been investigated by means of X-ray diffractometry, electrical resistivity measurements, thermogravitational and differential thermal analyses (TG-DTA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The crystallization occurs in the sequence glass phase⤃semiconducting (2201) phase⤃low-T_c (2212) phase⤃high-T_c (2223) phase. The excess addition of Ca and Cu constituents to the BSCCO ceramics facilitates the growth of the low-T_c and high-T_c phases.
