Low-Firing Y5P Relaxor Dielectric Material for Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor

The sintering and electrical properties of the ceramic dielectric material, (Pb_<0.6>Ba_<0.35>)(Zr_<0.7>Ti_<0.3>)O_3-Ba(CU_<1/2>W_<1/2>)O_3 have been studied. A small amount of Ba(CU_<1/2>W_<1/2>)O_3 drastically decreases the sintering temperature and increases the electrical resistivity of the ceramic. The dielectric material fired at 1,050-1,080℃, had a fired grain size of about 3 μm, a dielectric constant of 4,000-4,500, and a capacitance resistivity product of 10,000 Ω・F at room temperature and 8,000 Ω・F at 125℃. A multilayer ceramic capacitor made with such a ceramic dielectric and with 70Ag/30Pd internal electrodes satisfied the Y5P (ΔC<±10%, -30-+85℃) specifications of the ETA (Electronic Industries Association) Standards.
