Atomic Ordering in an Infinite-Layer Compound Sr_<0.85>Nd_<0.15>CuO_2 Studied by Transmission Electron Microscopy

Structural features of Sr_<0.85>Nd_<0.15>CuO_2 superconducting compound have been studied by electron microscopy. A high resolution electron microscopy observation indicated that inhomogeneous distribution of lattice image contrasts for the tetragonal c-planes frequently appeared in the crystal, which seemed to be resulted from short range ordering of metal atoms. Upon in-situ heating observation, a superstructure with parameters 2√<2>a_p×2√<2>a_p×c has been found at the temperature of about 600 K. Following the formation of this superstructure, various kinds of antiphase domains appeared in the crystals.
