A beam position monitor was used to measure beam position in an accelerator. The monitor was calibrated using an antenna with a 2 mm diameter to simulate an electron beam. However, the beam was large due to horizontal multiturn injection. Therefore, the measurements of beam position were affected by beam size, and measurement errors arose. When there were large errors, it was difficult to correct closed orbit distortion from the ideal or bit and to improve the performance of the accelerator. The effect of beam size on the measurements was simulated by means of the boundary element method. The results showed that beam position measured with monitors was increased vertically and decreased horizontally in relation to the actual beam position. These results were verified by experiments in a synchrotron.
