A newly designed longitudinal-flexural complex-mode transducer system is described. The one-dimensional composition of the transducer system is brought about by placing two sets of piezoelectric ceramics in a straight bar. This bar vibrates with longitudinal-mode vibration and flexural-mode vibration at the same resonant frequency. Therefore, the transducer can take the place of the conventionally used longitudinal-mode transducer when a complex mode is required. This paper describes the design procedure of the transducer system.
