High-Speed Measurement of B/A for Liquidlike Media by Time-of-Flight Method

Acoustical nonlinearity parameter B/A measurement is reported for soft tissues, because the B/A values of soft tissues have great potential for tissue characterization. The interference method previously reported required about two minutes to obtain the B/A value. High-speed measurement is required to obtain the B/A change, because B/A values at adiabatic and isothermal conditions relate physical factors of soft tissues. Use of the time-of-flight (TOF) method has been reported to obtain B/A values at about 60 times atmospheric pressure. However, since physical characteristics in soft tissues usually change under such circumstances, the tissue characterization requires B/A values obtained at near-normal pressures. In this paper, we describe an improvement of the high-speed measurement method for liquidlike media under the pressurized condition of 3 times atmospheric pressure. We studied change in B/A as a function of time in a pressure chamber.
