Absolute values of the photoelastic coefficients have been directly determined using the ultrasonic light diffraction method for water, ethyl alcohol, carbon tetrachloride, fused quartz, KRS-5 and KRS-6. The ultrasonic power at the interaction point with light has been calculated from the short-circuit transfer admittance measured by the pulse-echo technique. The obtained values of the coefficients are in good agreement with the published data, and the validity of the present method for the determination of the coefficients has been well established.
