A convenient, portable pressure microbomb has been designed for use with any uniaxial press. The present model provides for the application of a hydrostatic pressure up to 11 kb, and a uniaxial compression dependent on the force of the press. Both pressures may be applied simultaneously, and can be varied independently for controlled plastic deformation of a sample. The pressure vessel is constructed of a hardened non-ferromagnetic alloy, which allows measurement of changes of magnetic properties during deformation. Experiments may be conducted from liquid helium temperature to 200℃. A desired pressure condition can be maintained in the microbomb by locking, enabling measurements to be performed on apparatus other than the press, or after a time delay.
