By the use of vapor-quenching technique, amorphous films of Ti, Mn, Ni, Pd, Y and Fe-Ni alloys were obtained. The results of the radial distribution analysis lead to the conclusion that the range of regularity of atomic arrangement in these films is shorter than several angstroms. Some consideration is given about the origin of the appearance of an amorphous state in the case of the transition metals, which is compared with the case of metals which condense in a crystalline state.
