A new method for thermal conductivity measurement described is based on an analysis of transient change of the temperature gradient in specimens caused by intermittent heat input. The thermal conductivity is obtained by integration of the change of the temperature gradient. The method is suitable for measurement of the temperature dependence of the thermal properties of the specimen change sharply. The method is verified by an analysis of variances, using silica glass as the specimen, and the thermal conductivity of the silica glass observed is compared with the reported ones. Satisfactory agreement among them is observed. The method is also applicable to the measurement of thermal diffusivity.
