An equation of state, representing the relation between the pressure and the volume of powdered mass under compression, has been introduced by K.Kawakita, one of the authors. C=(V_0-V)/V_0=(abP)/(1+bP) This equation is compared with other equations hitherto proposed by various authors. Konopicky's and Tanimoto's equations are considered to be analogous to those of Athy and Kawakita, respectively. Athy's, Balshin's, Nutting's, Terzaghi's and Kawakita's equations are modified by adopting the same term of porosity as a scale, and compared with each other. These equations are applied to a series of experimental data published by various authors, and it is shown that the Kawakita's one get the best fit.
