The flow of a compressible fluid caused by the oscillation of an infinite porous plate in its own plane has been analysed when the plate is subjected to suction and viscous dissipation is taken into account. When the Prandtl number σ≠2, the thermal boundary layer has a double deck structure but when σ=2, the thermal layer has a single deck structure. If the plate is thermally insulated or at a constant temperature, the temperature of the fluid oscillates with twice the frequency of the plate oscillation. When σ≠2, and the plate temperature oscillates with the same frequency as that of the plate velocity, the thermal boundary layer shows a three-deck structure with thickness of 0(1/α_2), 0(1/x_1) and 0(1/2x) where x, α_1 and α_2 depend on suction, frequency parameter and σ.
