A sharp angle dependence of light scattering in silver halide crystals is observed with a He-Negas laser beam. Its dependence on crystal orientation differs from that of alkali halides. In silver halide crystals, many facets of the (III) lattice plane seem to be the mirror planes of reflection.Additional experiments on depolarization and Brewster angle reveal the scattering centers to be thin plates of precipitated atoms on the (III) lattice planes. Such thin planes are regarded as embryos of the precipitated silver colloids, which cannot be observed by an optical microscope, unless prolonged exposures are given.
