Optical and Magneto-Optical Properties of MnCuBi Thin Films

The optical and magneto-optical properties of the ferromagnetic compound MnCuBi thin films are studied. The non-magnetic refractive index n and the off-diagonal element ε' of the dielectric tensor ε are determined in the wavelength range of 3600〜7000 Å. The absorptive term of ε' shows maximum at 5000 Å and dispersive term of ε' changes the sign at this wavelength. The origin of the magneto-optic effects are discussed on the basis of the schematic energy band structure of MnCuBi.
