a) The conditions to attain high sensitivity and precision in the measurement of the ratio γ of the wavelength to the cubic crystal parameter a, by the multiple scattering method are discussed. b) The width of the interaction peaks and a relationship between the peak width and the uncertainty in γ, are obtained theoretically. c) The formulas thus obtained are analyzed in an attempt to optimize the experiment. d) From this study, the possibility arises of performing "divergence-free" experiments, where the contributions of the beam divergence and of mosaic spread to the width of the peak, and then to the uncertainty in γ, cancel out. A comparison between experimental values and those predicted by the theory shows a reasonably good agreement which can be considered as an initial confirmation of the theory.
