Instabilities due to an interaction of counter-streaming electron beams in a magnetic field are studied experimentally. The onset conditions of the instabilities are examined in the case of an interaction between two electron beams with the same energy or different energies. Experimental results indicate that the onset condition appears to be determined by the competition between a linear growth rate of the instability and a damping rate caused by the end loss.
