Annealing effects of the uniaxial magnetic anisotropy in cylindrical nonmagnetostrictive permalloy thin films were studied by measuring H_β (=H_ksinβ, β: skew angle) in the Belson trace. The experimental results were analyzed in terms of the Slonczewski theory on magnetic annealing, and discussed on the basis of the concept of active centers. Anisotropy spectra in as-deposited and stabilized films were found to consist of one fixed and four annealable components. The activation energies were 0.3 eV and 0.5 eV. These values were nearly the same as those of permalloy films evaporated at low substrate temperatures. This suggests that the annealing processes with these low activation energies are closely related to the microstructure of thin films.
