Based upon the theory of Wiener spectrum of the random signal, capacities for the circular or rotationally symmetric isolated defects, which are to be detected in non-destructive testing and in medical diagnosis, are introduced. The formulae for capacity are the same with those for the continuous signal given in a previous paper [Japan. J. appl. Phys. 9 (1970) 182] except that the object spectrum is the square Fourier transformation of the slit-scanned image of the defect. Numerical examples of the capacity are given for the cylindrical, conic, and Gaussian-type defects as a function of radius. The capacity for a small radius coincides with the random signal case, and it decreases with the increase of radius. For the large radius defect, the capacity is proportional to the inverse square radius and the order of the capacity is inverted from that for the random signal. These two effects for the cylindrical defect appear at larger radius than for other two, because of the broader object spectrum.
