Cargo handling capacities of two rigged hatches are considered to be about 1.5〜1.7 times that of one rigged hatches, viz., mean work time is increased about 20〜30%. This phenomenon is explained by the "Wait" in work time of two gangs' operations.Wait exists also between stevedoring (movement of cargo from pier to ship, or vice versa) and stowage (handling of cargo from hook to its place of stowage in ship) or breaking out. So the cargoing time has no linear relation to the position of stowage in hold. Application of stochastic process indicates this relation as shown in Fig. 3.Minimum length for hatch opening to avoid excessive wait is expressed on the basis of calculated results of the effect of "Storage" in material handling.
