In order to calculate the effectiveness of superstructure with corrugated side walls to longitudinal strength, it is necessary to know the rigidity of the side walls against shearing force.The theoretical equation to calculate the ratio of rigidity of vertically corrugated plate against horizontal shearing force with that of vertically stiffened flat plate is obtained. The ratio ξ is proved to become as follows, when the hight of the plate is large enough compared with the pitch of corrugation or the both upper and lower ends of the plate is not sufficiently fixed against bending;ξ=(straight length of one corrugation)/(girth length of one corrugation) Results of several experiments on this subject are well explained by those theoretical equaions.
