It is well-known that caution should be taken in cargo loading to determine the longitudinal strength of ship as well as trim and stability. The scantling of the midship section of the super ship must comply with the requirement of the classification society. Accordingly, it is desirable that ship's crews arrange the cargo load so that the longitudinal bending stress in still water and also the standard hogging and sagging wave will be less than the allowable stress of the regulatory body.A simple method or calculation to assume the longitudinal bending stress of the vessel is apparently advantageous to the ship operators and designers.A loading table in tabular form which is similar to that of current use at present day, is proposed herewith to determine the following necessities for sailing by simply arithmetical calculation without other guidance, curves of form and diagrams.(1) Average draft and trim(2) Bending factor in still water(3) Bending factor in standard waves The buoyancy moment in still water and waves could be indicated by the linear equations of the conditional displacement for the vessel in service and also by the practical approximate formula or diagram for the vessel in initial design stage.
