大型船の操縦性判定と舵面積の決定

Recently, manoeuvrability of super tankers and specially designed cargo ships is becoming a matter of great concern due to their great size and increase of fullness. In this paper, the author presents some criteria on manoeuvrability and rudder area design for ships, especially greater than 200 m in length. These criteria are based on the summerized results of zig-zag tests and ship's motions during voyage, as well as a Ω∼δ analysis of steady turning characteristics, together with the study of the questionaire presented to navigators aboard such ships. The main results obtained are as follows. (1) Ship's motions in 10° zig-zag test can be taken as the standard of various motions during a voyage. (2) Standard rudder area can be determined by Fig. 11 in view of course stability, and by Fig. 13 from the viewpoint of turning performance. (3) It is recommended to adopt the larger value between Fig. 11 and Fig. 13 as the rudder area whichever is the larger, but it is considered possible to decrease it to the lower limit (Fig. 12 in view of courses tability) under special circumstances. (4) The standard rudder area in this paper is considered to be reasonable judging from the distribution of manoeuvrability characteristics of 120 recently built large ships (Fig. 14 and Fig. 15). The criteria for judgement were the same as presented above by the author.
