A theoretical method is proposed for predicting wave forces acting upon a ship running in following oblique waves at very low encounter frequency. This method is consistent in the sense that all the fluid dynamic forces of the lowest order of magnitude are included assuming slender ship form and low wave encounter frequency. Force amplitudes predicted by the present method are compared with the predicted by the Froude-Krylov approximation and discrepancies were found particularly in some wave conditions.
