The light soures life cycle is evaluated with environmental aspects. Especially life cycle assessment is done, including production, distribution, use of lamp, and disposal. In the case of lamp energy consumption during usage has significant influence compared to other stages. Though containing hazadous materials such as mercury, fluorescent lamps and HID (High Intensity Discharge) lamps are efficient for energy saving. Fossil fuel-fired power plants release of mercury to environment according to amount of power generation, so incandescent lamps put into more mercury than fluorescent lamps and HID lamps. Further recycling and minimizing mercury in lamps are necessary.
