We have experienced an outstanding progress of laser technology in the last decade. The laser intensity has exceeded 10^<20> W/cm^2. The electric field of such laser is 10 kV/Å and the fairly large fraction of the laser energy is used to generate relativistic electrons with the energy more than several MeV. A variety of nuclear reactions triggered by the electrons and γ-rays stemming from the bremmstrahlung emmision have been reported. In this chapter, I briefly summarize the contents of this special topic article. Since the potential readers are not specialist of nuclear physics, I tried to review the essence of nuclear physics necessary to go forward and understand the other main articles.
