For the past 10 years or so, efforts have been made in this hospital to solve the problem of tuberculosis, in such points as examination of the patients, rehabilitation standards, after-care, and others. Until a few years ago, there had been about 10 persons requiring hospital care among 150 or so of persons placed under medical supervision as suspicious cases, and the number of hospitalization could not be reduced. It was then learned that oral administration of an antituberculosis agents was effective for prevention, and administration of 0.3 g of IHMS, three times a week, was started in June, 1955. Since then, hospitalization of suspicious cases decreased to only 2∼3 in one year. However, improvement of the cases, that is, reduction of the number of out-patient or suspicious cases was not altered. Based on such results, tests were conducted on 79 persons at work requiring medical observations. They were given a single dose of 3 tablets of "Hydronsan tablets (CHUGAI) (containing 0.1 g of isoniazid glucuronate per tablet) per day, for 6 days a week, for 1 year. X-ray observations, state of work, sedimentation rate, and body weight were recorded, and values before and after the administration were compared. As to X-ray observations, 26.6% showed improvement, 73.4% unchanged, and no case worsening. As classified by affection types (Oka's), 35.7% of the mixed infiltration type and 39.3% of the sclerotic type had undergone improvement while others remained unchanged. Preventive administration of isoniazid glucuronate is, therefore, recommended for prevention of tuberculosis and of big economic losses by expenditure of a small cost.
