Many reports have been published from our Department on the influence of fluorides upon the live body. The authors made a series of examinations, as one of the systematic studies, through erythrocyte counts, loeucocyte counts, hemoglobin values, hematocrit values with micro-method and differenetial counts of leucocytes on 58 workers exposed to fluorides in an aluminum factory (fluoride content ranging from 1.1 to 2.1 ppm). On the other hand, hematocrit values were measured with micro-method on 96 middle school pupils living near the factory. Fluoride concentrations of the atomosphere in this area ranged from 3 to 5 ppb. The following results were obtained; 1) There appeared only slight reductions in hemoglobin values, red cell counts and hem at ocrit in these workers, while significantly lower values (p=0.05) of hematocrit were found among school pupils in the polluted area as compared with those in the nonpolluted area. 2) Among the factory workers, no leucopenic persons were detected, while 19% of the workers were found to have leucocytosis. 3) The findings of the hemogramm revealed a slight decrease of monocytes and a slight increase of lymphocytes and of basophilic leucocytes. There was a disproportion between the numbers of nonsegmented and segmented leucocytes, that is, the number of the former being increased and the average ration against the latter was 30.4 to 100. The mean nucleus counts of the neutrophilic leucocytes, therefore, slightly decreased. And, metamyelocytes and so-called toxic granules in leucocytes were found in 17.2% and 29.3% of the workers respectively.
