Fresh and dry weights of sunflower hypocotyl disks treated with bacteria as in Part I of this report have been tested by analyses of variance. These showed that when seedlings from which disks were prepared had been subjected to different light treatments there were significant differences among all the main treatments and interactions between them were analysed. Such interactions were among bacterial, disk-light and IAA treatments and among bacterial, disk-light and seed-ling-light treatments. Dry weight to fresh weight ratios were shown to vary more with the seedling and disk-light treatments than with bacterial treatments. These interactions are discussed in relation to the possible mechanisms by which E. coli induces proliferation of hypocotyl tissues when grown in the light while these bacteria inhibit growth in the dark.
