Certain diterpenes, isolated from various tobacco species and cultivars, inhibited the growth of wheat coleoptiles. The most active were sclareol, a mixture of sclareol and epi-sclareol, a and β-4,8,13-duvatriene-1,3-diol, abienol, and labdanediol.
