The potassium efflux from cells of Chara corallina was recorded simultaneously with an action potential using a flame photometer and a perfusion system. The potassium efflux increased instantaneously with the action potential and lasted for 12-76 sec. The net potassium efflux during an action potential averaged 308 picomoles/cm^<2.>impulse.
