This paper presents the 3-D human face recognition using the technique of finding the range in 3-D from Stereo camera images while sweep the laser scans line across the face. We calculate the high accuracy distances from the camera to each point on the face's surface and we use these distances to reconstruct the surface of face in the 3-D coordinate system. Then we calculate the contour line, each contour line represent the depth of 0.5mm. After that we calculate the area inside each contour line. The characteristic of the changing size of the area of area each depth can be use as a feature of each face. The reference data of each face will be recorded to the database. In the recognition process, we find the relationship between the unknown's feature and every reference data in the database by using correlation coefficient. Then we can obtain the percentage of relationship of the unknown and each reference. With this presented method the recognition rate is up to 86.5%.
