• Traditionally, fuzzy sets are utilized to model uncertainty and imprecision in an image data. For tuning morphology to soft decision, the combination of a fuzzy and a morphological operator is the alternative method. This paper proposes the edge detection approach via performing the fuzzy morphological gradient to map a grey-scale image into an edge image. A notable strength of the fuzzy morphological gradient edge detector is that it does not require the use of a threshold and can suppress the below-scale detail. The proposed algorithm has been tested on various imageries, and the results have demonstrated that the proposed method outperforms the traditional morphological gradient techniques.
