The ramped reset pulse has been experimentally investigated in an alternating current plasma display panel(AC-PDP)by a versatile driving simulator(VDS)system, in which arbitrary driving waveforms and sequences can be used. By applying a optimal slow ramped reset-pulse, the initial wall charges have been uniformly accumulated on the dielectric layer due to its weak and broad discharges to result in lower addressing and sustaining voltages than those for fast reset-pulses. It is found that the optimal ramped reset-pulse could compensate for the non-uniform cells and electric field distribution across the electrodes, which results in high contrast ratio and luminous efficiency due to uniform wall charge distributions in AC-PDP.
