Bromination of 5-pyridazinol 1-oxide (VI) under various conditions, 4,6-dibromo-5-pyridazinol 1-oxide (IX) was always produced and the monobromo compound was not obtained. When the 6-position was blocked as in 6-piperidinomethyl-5-pyridazinol 1-oxide (X), 4-bromo-6-piperidinomethyl-5-piridazinol 1-oxide (XI) was obtained in 57% yield. The brominated position was determined by NMR spectroscopy.
