Quantitative determination by X-ray diffraction method was carried out on vaginal tablets containing carbarzone, Fradil, Chloramphenicol, and or trichomycin as the chief component(s), using both intact and crushed tablets. Of these, the diffraction pattern of the trichomyin tablet appeared as a halo. The carbarzone tablet was assumed to absorb moisture and cause dissolution of carbarzone crystals or decomposition of carbarzone. In short, quantitative determination by this method was found to be impossible. In the quantitative determination of intact tablets of other components, the determination was also difficult, since the concentration of the chief component was less than 50%, and surface of the tablet was not flat, so that there was decrease in the intensity of diffraction lines or diffusing of the peak. However, determination of Fradil tablet seemed to be possible. In this case, diffraction intensity would be more easily obtained with better, reproducibility from the peak area rather than from the peak height. It was also found that the two surfaces and direction of the tablet to X-ray beam, i.e. way of fixing to the holder, greatly affected the reproducibility. Better reproducibility was also obtained by the use of crushed tablets than intact tablets.
