The pupal stage of the univoltine zygaenid, Pryeria sinica, extends from late spring to late autumn. Influences of temperature and photoperiod on this long pupal stage were studied. Both short day and low temperature were effective in shortening the pupal stage, although the action of temperature seemed to be subsidiary. Thus, the pupal stage was the shortest in 16℃-12L12D (100 days) and the longest in 25℃-16L8D (165 days). A temperature fall also shortens the pupal stage even under a constant long day. From these results the pupal dormancy in this species was regarded as a typical summer diapause.
